Finding new whitespaces for Borosil glass in the Indian kitchen

In 2015, we conducted a nationwide kitchen study for Borosil to understand real Indian kitchen needs, micro-motions, and human factors. We mapped how people actually move, store, cook, and access their essentials so the brand could find its most natural place in the kitchen.

With the need and opportunity clear, we moved into prototyping. We shaped borosilicate tubes to ease glass apprehension and elevate table-side serving. We experimented with dimensions, stoppers, and bases to make glass intuitive, safe, and delightful to use.

From the many ideas, Flip Tray stood out for its balance and premium feel. Food stays stored in borosilicate glass while a sturdier base provides structure.

We crafted a minimal form with structural ribs, integrated the plastic hinge, and explored multiple finishes before choosing the final matte blue and space grey.
